Backyard Bunnies

I have always loved bunnies.  And they have shown up every place that I have lived.  As an adult, I discovered just a couple of years ago that I do have Native American heritage from a South Texas tribe.  But even before that discovery, my aunt told me about Animal spirits and Animal medicine, and encouraged me to become more aware of my interactions with nature.  So over the years, I have paid attention, and I do believe that bunnies are strong medicine for me.  At this particular house, the bunnies are abundant!  Tonight I saw three of them enjoying and playing in the back yard.  I love to watch them, and am so happy that they like it here.  I think they really love the studio and have made a home in the spaces underneath.  We have an older dog named Winston, and even he lets them be.  He just watches them and seems to co-exist peacefully with them.  When he was younger, he would have chased them down.  But now he just watches them and they know when to go and hide.

  1. Rabbit or Hare is my animal medicine, meaning fear, future, and abundance. I find myself in fear most of my days and then I go to scripture and the fear goes away. I frequently forget to focus or think about "future" and "abundance". We humans do want to think the worse! Ha! I love rabbit's quiet nature and blending into their surroundings, two things I think artists need to do in order to observe and create their observations. Perhaps, this is your call by rabbit?

    1. Perhaps. Good thoughts. I think that I find myself in fear when I focus to much on the future instead of being in " the moment". If I focus on the past, I find myself in the land of regret. I think we find abundance and peace by focusing more on being present in the moment, and being more observant. I have to constantly remind myself to do this. Just looking at the bunnies will bring a smile to my face though and a feeling of peace. I like your comment about their quiet nature and blending into the environment. And yes - as an artist - I do relate to these two qualities. I was just thinking about teaching art and my upcoming evaluation, and thinking that people want something that can look good in a newspaper, or be media friendly when they look into an art classroom. And I just don't think that the learning that takes place in an art room looks like that. It just looks different. I think that sometimes the learning is very quiet, and hidden, and hard for evaporators and administrators to appreciate what is actually happening and taking place inside of the learner. Art is a quiet discipline, and I think it does blend in to the environment, as do artists themselves. Until it is the right time for them to speak out and show their stuff. But that part of creating doesn't happen every day, does it? I think you speak clearly to me about the role of art and rabbit spirit animal medicine into my life. Perhaps this is my call by the rabbit. Something to think about in our media driven and appearance driven world. To look at a thing, is to not always understand it.

    2. Those who Evaluate - not evaporators! Also the quote I am thinking of comes from the movie "The Ideal Husband" in which one of the characters says, "to look at a think is not always to see it". (or understand it)
