Finishing Out Plan

Today, my good friend Sue came over wearing her overalls, and ready to help in the studio!  I didn't have all of my supplies together yet - so she walked out to the backyard, and gave me some great suggestions!  And we have a plan!  We are going to staple the rest of the insulation that we have into place on the walls and ceiling. Then we will reclaim some cardboard, and staple that on top of the insulation.  To finish things off - I will then staple muslin or canvas fabric to the walls and ceiling.  If I desired to - I could gesso and then paint these "walls".  But we decided that this is using what I already have, and what I can recycle.  This will give enough insulation for the building for me to be comfortable, and be inexpensive and practical.  My AC/Heater/Dehumidifier unit is supposed to be arriving today!  So I just have to gather up my supplies and staple guns, and have a day when friends can come over and help me do one wall at a time.  Sue also had the great idea of burying the extension cord in the ground from the house to the studio, so the mowers can't hack it in two, like they did my first extension cord.  She did this to her work shed, and it worked great.  To have electricity put from house to shed was going to be $3500 on the estimate - and I am not about to spend that kind of money.  My new indoor/outdoor extension cord is costing less that $20, and I think we can make this work.  We will do the walls first, then ceiling.  I may do some chalkboard paint on the backs of the doors, and will need to add paint to a few places.  I will use what I have left over from remodeling this place last spring.  I'm excited to have a plan, and I think it will look cool, be practical,  be inexpensive and serve my needs.  We also talked about creating a space for a printmaking press, when I am able to get one.  But that will be in the future.  One thing at a time.

  1. How life giving to be creating creation space. I love how you are being very "green" on the finish out. I hope you can have a space for "being".

    1. Thanks! I truly need it. Yes - I loved Sue's suggestion for the finishing out. Very green and easy for me to do, and I already have most of the materials.
