Weekend Warrior

This weekend was truly beautiful spring weather. And I spent it mostly outside working on the back yard part of my vision for the outside of my  creative space.  I wanted to take advantage of the perfect weather and the  Lawn and Garden things out at Aldi's.  If you snooze you lose!  They have great quality items for very reasonable prices, and I wanted to take advantage of what they had before it was gone.  So on Friday evening while my kids were swimming at the Y, I made several trips to Aldi's, and one to Lowe's.  My car is a small Toyota Hatchback - so I did have to make a few more trips on Saturday.
I also tried the Lowe's online pick up feature for the first time, and that worked pretty well, until I realized that I had ordered a 1000 pound bag of pea gravel.  That was not going to fit into my hatchback!  So, I cancelled that part of the order and convinced my friend Missy to let me use her truck and switched over to bags of River Rock for the stone circle fire pit.
My daughter Jennifer helped me with putting part of the border down for the stone circle.   And I played with placement of the Adirondack chairs and firepit to get the circle large enough.
I did use some Round up on the mostly weeds in the circle, and was able to use my yard wheelbarrow to get the bags of river rock down to the circle.  I will update the photos when I get the rock spread out.  I have also decided to do a border and similar rock area for the picnic table on the other side of the studio.  But more of a rectangular shape for the picnic table area.  That project will have to happen on another weekend.
We have also been adopted by a kitty cat.  I think when some neighbors moved out, they left her behind.  She is mostly outside, she isn't willing yet to come in and share the house with our dog Sir Winston.  Jennifer decided that since we have Sir Winston, we needed a Queen Elizabeth - so we are calling the kitty Lizzie for short.  She is very pretty and smart - her tail reminds me of a racoon.  With her around though, the bunnies are staying away from the back yard.  I still see the bunnies in the front  and side yards.   I miss the bunnies, but I wasn't about to turn away a hungry and abandoned kitty.

 Space on the front porch.  I plan to get a recycled plastic rug to place underneath this area.  The stain on the concrete is one of the things we inherited with the place.  I will also try some cleaning product on it this summer, and then put an outside rug down.

Round up sprayed on the weeds, and I will spread the stones in a few days.  
I am a bit sore from all of the physical labor - but pleased with progress so far.

Williamsburg Bird Bottle and Texas Mosquitos

I have had this bird bottle for many years now, and in all of the moves and places we have lived - never once hung it up.  I lived in Williamsburg, Virginia for one year when I was 20, and I loved the Colonial area, and walking through the Governor's Palace Gardens. I bought the bottle on a return trip when as a family we traveled there to show our girls where we had once lived.  And for them to experience Jamestown, and Colonial Williamsburg. I do not know why I have moved it to so many places and never hung it in a garden.  Or under the eaves of the house. Maybe this says something about me not ever really feeling at home at the other addresses.  I do feel more at home here, and perhaps it is because I have had much to do with the choosing of the main properties and decor of the house.  It has also been a stable and calm period of life, and my children and I do feel comfortable and peaceful and at home here.   The bird bottle is supposed to attract...

Relaxing: Porch Rocking Chairs, Hard Apple Cider and Fire Pit Flames on a Crisp Spring Evening

 I found these two rocking chairs while shopping at Aldi's.  Only $25 each.  After looking around and online - I thought this was a great price for porch rocking and relaxing.    I also found a terrific deal on Amazon for a $65 Fire pit.  Assembly was required - but it wasn't too bad, and thankfully everything was included that was needed for the assembly.  This fire pit came with some great accessories - even a plastic cover for bad weather.   A fire on a crisp Spring night with a crisp apple cider in hand.  Enjoying this from my new rocking chair.  I did realize though that, I will have to put down some kind of stone circle of pavers or a gravel pit somewhere for the fire pit, for safety concerns.  That still needs to be done.   We are going to have a lot of fun with this - roasted marshmallows, smores. and hot dogs coming up!

Backyard Beginnings

Places to sit and reflect I'm so proud that this she shed has found a home and will become a space for me to create! Picnic area.  We love picnics in our family.   The Mission Fig tree transplant.  I am hoping that it lives! I would love to have an area like this to the left of the studio.  This would be into the future  But I really like Adirondack chairs and fire pits.  A place to chill and relax with friends would be really nice.
